MSI Crosshair 16 HX: look beyond the RTX 5070 badge
A sharp 240Hz screen makes this configuration interesting. Its modest storage and 8GB graphics memory deserve equal attention.
A $1,399 offer was reported on October 14. We have not confirmed that it remains available on October 19. Treat that figure as a past offer, not today’s checkout price.
The BudgetProtector verdict
Worth shortlisting at $1,399 if you value the built-in screen and mainly play at a desk. This is a conditional value judgement, not a live-deal endorsement. Compare the complete package—including storage, memory and seller terms—before paying.

| Component | Specification | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core i9-14900HX | Check application benchmarks rather than choosing on the i9 label alone. |
| Graphics | RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR7; up to 115W with Dynamic Boost | A GPU name alone does not establish performance against another laptop. |
| Screen | 16-inch, 2560 × 1600, 240Hz, IPS-level; 100% DCI-P3 typical | Refresh rate is a display capability, not a promise of 240fps. |
| Memory and storage | 16GB DDR5; 512GB NVMe SSD | Allow for your actual game library and application needs. |

The screen is a reason to consider it
For someone using the built-in display every day, screen quality matters alongside graphics performance. The QHD+ resolution and high refresh rate make this configuration worth comparing with laptops that prioritise the GPU while offering a more basic panel.
MSI’s stated colour-gamut coverage is useful context, but it does not establish factory colour accuracy. Nor does 240Hz guarantee that demanding games will run at 240 frames per second. Game settings and measured performance still matter.
Two limits to budget around
The graphics memory is 8GB. Do not assume the RTX 5070 name means more VRAM than every cheaper alternative. If demanding high-resolution gaming is your priority, look for benchmarks of the games and settings you actually intend to use.
The SSD is 512GB. Several large games or substantial video files can make additional storage a practical consideration. Compare the total purchase and upgrade cost with alternatives that include more storage. Confirm compatibility and warranty terms before planning an internal upgrade.
The included 16GB RAM also deserves attention if you regularly run several demanding applications. We have not measured this configuration’s frame rates, battery endurance, noise or temperatures, and do not assign it a numerical review score.
Who should consider it?
